The branches detailed below have developed over time quite arbitrarily. They are merely a convenient way of representing parts of an ancestral tree either by identifying a specific ancestor and a date or the location(s) of a family of ancestors.   Presented in this way they facilitate research and progression of enquiries. Some key locations for Hindmarsh families, as for example Alnwick or Wallsend, have developed to such extent that sub-branches, listed in alphabnumeric order, have been established to ease identification.   In this way some "branches" have 300 to 500 persons named while others have no more than 5 to 10.   In keeping with the primary objective of this site, it is hoped that many of these branches will ultimately be linked.

The town of Whickham in Co. Durham is one of the earliest locations of the Hindmarsh family but no branches are directly linked to it at this stage.   Early ancestors from Whickham may be viewed on the next page.
